Molly Makes Critters
Hey there! I'm Molly O'Shaughnessy and I am the chief critter wrangler behind Molly Makes Critters. I'm a ceramic artist working near Atlanta, GA out of MudFire Studios in Decatur. Despite being part racoon, I received a BFA in Ceramics from GSU and have been cranking out thousands of fun, colorful (and sometimes creepy) functional and sculptural works ever since. I love making dog mugs (doggos!), cat tumblers (kitties!) and all manner of critters in between. My style is coloring book meets curio cabinet - and I would be so delighted for you to find a new friend for your morning coffee, your afternoon tea parties, your altar needs or for gifting to your best critter loving friends. And I hope they bring some tenderness, playfulness or humor into your day.
My work is both wheel thrown and hand built - and often both! My goal is to bring a bit of whimsy into all parts of my making, allowing pieces to come to life and engage in their own world of waggery. I often use both sculptural aspects and painterly effects to create a whole little scene for each new friend - allowing the end user (hopefully you!) to enjoy the work as if it were a puppet show staged just for one. I enjoy firing in a multitude of ways - often using an electric kiln to build layers of color, sometimes with precious metal accents like gold or silver - and occasionally soda firing the work, which certainly ups the rascality of the characters, I think! I enjoy making functional work - like mugs, tumblers, small jewelry plates - as well as larger more sculptural objects befit for a travelling circus master's curio of oddities. All of my work is handmade and absolutely unique and one of a kind as my immersive making process allows for lots of improvisation and play. I hope you'll consider adopting a friend from the work available on my site - if you're looking for useable pieces, all of my work is food safe, dishwasher, microwave and oven safe unless it is listed as having a gold or silver luster (these pieces shouldn't go into the microwave and the dishwasher will certainly fade the luster quickly). And if you're looking for a larger, specific sculptural piece, I'm always happy to discuss commissioned work.
In between my regular critter maintenance duties and my irregular admin duties, I'm an avid fan of horror films, crocheting, thrifting, using the phrase gee-whiz! and monster energy drinks (up to you). Thanks for visiting my site - I hope you'll join the critter club below.
